Readers ask: Why isn’t James Broadnax charged with a hate crime in Garland death penalty case?
I’ve gotten many comments on blog posts and in e-mails asking (or in some cases demanding to know) why James Broadnax hasn’t been charged with a hate crime. There is a gag order in the case, so I can’t get official comment. But, in Texas, there is no actual charge of a hate crime. It is only a punishment enhancement.
